As a callow youth of twenty, I dreamed of taking
the literary world by storm. I was greatly influenced by the works of Charles Bukowski, Max Jacob, Mark Twain,O'Henry,Sholem
Aleichem,Kurt Vonegut,William Faulkner, Jack Kerouac,Gertrude Stein, James Baldwin, John Steinbeck, Bruce Jay Friedman,Edgar
Allen Poe,William Saroyan,Bernard Malamud,Henry Roth,Saul Bellow,S.J.Perelman,Philip Roth,Joseph Heller,Mario Puzo,Felice
Picano,Alex Haley,William Shakespeare, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Wallace Markfield, and Norman Savage just to name a few.
I was equally moved by the poetry of such greats as Lord Byron, John Keats, Percy Shelly, Dylan Thomas, Paul Verlaine, Arthur
Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, Allen Ginsberg and Max Jacob. Equally important to my development as a writer are the works of
Albert Camus, Jean Paul Sartre, Andre Gide, Andre Malraux, and Eugene Ianesco. Cinematic influences include: David Lean; the
French New Wave auteurs such as Jean Luc Goddard and Francois Truffaut; the comedic geniuses of Charles Chaplin,The Marx Brothers,
Buster Keaton,The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, W.C.Fields, Jerry Lewis,Mel Brooks and Jacques Tati;
the American masters such as Francis Ford Copolla, Martin Scorcese, George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg. I also admire the
stand-up comedic artistry of such great talents as Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, Alan King, Don Rickles, Jerry Seinfeld and a host
of others too numerous to mention.
