From
Amazon.Com Review by Felice A. Picano (Los Angeles, CA) -
"This is the
second time I've read the stories in Jack Henry Markowitz's collection in less than a year. I've been catapulted back in time--forty
years?-- and place-- to the outer boroughs of New York to a time where I grew up--wonderfully and fully. Markowitz captures
the rhythmns of speech and the difficulty of thought of his characters to perfection. The stories center around Brooklyn
Jewish New York City life and how second generation Jews made the sometimes uneasy leap from Europe's perilous ghettoes to
the "golden medina" of America, without losing their traditions or sense of self. Bravo!"
"Five short stories supplemented by a few examples of insightful verse,
this little volume by a Brooklyn native is written with satiric wit and Jewish humor about working class New York characters
he had observed during his growing-up years. The author movingly recaptures a time, a place and a people in all their humanity."

"The
Practice and Other Stories and Selected Poems is well-written and has the potential to be a national bestseller!" - Airleaf
Publishing, May, 2006.
This book is a collection
of five of my original short stories and seven of my selected poems: Blind Man - the story of starry eyed
youth on the threshold of lost innocence; The Visit - a story about enduring family bonds;
The Practice - the story of a family physician whose clients view him more as a shaman than as a doctor; The
Fundraiser - the story of an older man who hates his job and his life but who continues to struggle to find a better
way; and Coney Island Limey - the story of an eccentric chap from Liverpool who sneaks into
war time America under dubious circumstances. The seven poems included in this collection are simply some of my personal favorites.
I hope that you will be interested in purchasing this collection and that you will enjoy reading the stories and selected
poems.
"STUFF HAPPENS or MY LIFE AS A MONKEY"
- A Novella - 2008 - This book is a fictitious yet semi-autobiographical account of the life of one Dobbin Feldman -
a reluctant member of the Baby Boomer generation - full of existential angst and Jewish humor written from the point of view
of a first generation Jewish American born into an exceedingly unconventional family situation.
"BUBBIE
AND ZADIE SAVE THE DAY" - Illustrated Children's Book (Illustrations by Diane Lucas) - Xlibris -2010. With
illustrations by Diane Lucas this is a rather unusual children's story based on a Romanian folk fairy
tale that was told to me and my siblings by my mother as a rather unusual bedtime story.
